The company was founded by Ernst Menzi (1897-1984).

The first machine was delivered in 1966 and it's name was based on the legendary fairy tale character Muck (The Story of Little Muck). The Menzi Muck 2500 was the world's first walking Spider excavator. Only two prototypes of this original model were ever made.
